Follow your dreams! Reach for the stars!
You can do it if you try! These are words that Kimberly Van Meter,
recent graduate of Santa Paula High School has lived by her entire
life. On May 14, 2005, Kimberly participated in a Fine Arts
Competition in Covina, CA. She entered three categories, Female
Vocal Solo, Individual Songwriting and Short Sermon. After winning
National Honors in two of the three categories, Kimberly was invited
to represent her church, Bethany Chapel of Oxnard, CA and the
Southern California Assemblies of God in Denver from August 1-6,
2005 at the National Championships. She will compete in both the
Female Vocal Solo and Individual Songwriting
competitions.
Kimberly was recently granted a wish by
“Make A Wish Foundation.”
Her wish was to produce a CD of her own
song writing and vocal styles. The Foundation introduced Kimberly to
Tim Frantz of Mountain Dog Musicworks Recording Studios in Ojai
(http://www.mountaindogmusic.com)
who is working with Kimberly to
help her wish come true. One of the songs will be entered into the
competition in Denver, where Kimberly will perform the song in front
of a panel of judges in hopes of winning a scholarship to Bible
College. “We are so proud of our daughter. God has gifted her for
great things,” said her mother, Brenda Van Meter.
If you’ve seen plane tickets to Denver
lately, you know that travel isn’t cheap. Kimberly wants to earn her
own way to the competition. On Saturday, July 9, 2005, between 11
a.m and 5 p.m., Kimberly will be at Pamela’s Tea Room on Main Street
in Santa Paula. Pamela’s has agreed to allow Kimberly to come in and
help bus tables, serve food, and sing at the top and bottom half of
the hour. Pamela’s will donate a portion of the proceeds to Kimberly
for her trip to Denver. “It’s awesome to see what God is doing in my
life. I hope to win a scholarship so I can major in music and
Biblical theology at Azusa Pacific University. I want to be able to
give back to my community someday,” said Kimberly.
Kimberly Van Meter has been a resident of
Santa Paula for two years. She is active in her church and has
participated in productions throughout the year at Santa Paula High
School. If you would like to contribute directly to Kimberly’s
Denver trip, please make checks payable to: Bethany Chapel. You can
drop the check by Pamela’s on Saturday, July 9, or mail them to:
Bethany Chapel, 1076 Stroube, El Rio, CA 93036. Please write Kim’s
Denver Trip in the memo portion of your check.
